Kit was built to help creators like you build and cultivate your most important asset—your audience. That’s why we put so much thought and effort into making sure the tools creators like you need to communicate with your audience are always improving.
This year, we’ve put our time into improving the quality of our email editor.
We are so excited to dive into all the new updates we’ve made so you can move seamlessly between writing and designing to create emails that enhance your content and look uniquely yours.
Kit Marketplace: Beautiful email templates by creators, for creators

The Kit Marketplace is filled with email templates designed by creators for creators using Kit’s newly updated email editor. From newsletters to product launch promotions, you’ll find a template that you can immediately add to your account for free and start making your own.
We’ve always steadfastly believed that the quality of an email newsletter is in the content—that hasn’t changed. Your subscribers stick with you not because of how beautiful your emails are, but how relevant your writing is in helping them. Plus, simpler emails do better for deliverability.
But, we also recognize the importance of your brand. If your content is around design, you want that represented in the email you send. If you’re a food blogger or a photographer, you need templates that best showcase your work.
With all the improvements we’ve made, the design choice is yours. Whether you’re sending a personal, plain-text email or a fully designed event promotion, you can now create emails that are simple to build, easy to design, and optimized for the best deliverability.
Big designs with small updates
And to give you the flexibility to create designs similar to the ones you see in the Marketplace, we rolled out a lot of small feature improvements:
- Add in layout blocks with up to 3 columns
- Customize layout blocks with any rich media content
- Set custom margins and padding
- Choose different color backgrounds for different sections of your emails
At first glance, those feature updates look small, but they have a massive impact on the types of email designs you can easily build with Kit. With the additional column in layout blocks, you can now create a Social Media section in your newsletter that looks like this in Josh Hemley’s template:

With custom margins and layout blocks, you can create a more airy design that lets content like photographs speak for itself in Nathan Barry’s email template:

All these small changes roll up to give you the flexibility you need to make the changes you want to your email templates and create the design that best reflects your brand with no code necessary.
New look for Kit’s newsletter
Want to see how we’ve used an email template from the Kit Marketplace and applied our company’s brand? Subscribe to our newsletter to check out its fresh look.
Instead of taking time to design a brand new template, our team explored the Marketplace for a template that would fit our newsletter content needs— Rafal Tomal’s design did just that.

We customized the template to our brand colors, updated the header and footer styles, and changed the article layout blocks in a way that best spotlights our content. This saved us so much time putting together a new template and helped us stay true to who we are as a brand.
A cohesive editor that gives you a seamless writing experience
One big focus this year is to improve the user experience by bringing you a cohesive editor experience.
Over the years, we’ve introduced new features so you can send one-off emails, queue up email sequences, create reusable content snippets…and more. To deliver them, we had to make a few trade-offs that we’ve now gone back to streamline.
No matter what type of email or email content you’re creating, you’ll have a consistent user interface to make editing more efficient and accessible. Here are all the updates we’ve recently made to this editor to make writing your email content super seamless:
Starting Point templates

Starting Points templates are the newest email templates we have at Kit. They provide more flexibility to edit and stylize your content as a template, as well as when you need to make edits on the go. The Classic templates do not have as many customization options, especially in the header and footer, and cannot be edited directly from the broadcast editor while you’re building a new email. With the Starting Point templates, all those restrictions are gone.
All the templates in the Kit Marketplace are Starting Point templates!
Content snippets types: Block & Inline
Content snippets are reusable content blocks that you can add to your email content to speed up your writing process. We’ve updated to give you two content snippet types: Block and Inline. In the past, all content snippets introduced a line break. Now, we’ve removed that constraint by giving you additional options.
Better editing experience with content snippets
In addition to introducing new content snippet types, we’ve also made some improvements to the content snippets’ editing experience. Here all the updates you’ll see:
- Content snippet preview in editor: When you add content snippets to your email, they will now show a preview of their content instead of the Liquid tags. This will make editing and writing your email content much easier, as you don’t have to memorize what the Liquid tags represent!
- Edit content snippets directly: You can click on a snippet’s preview to edit it directly in your email editor–no more switching back to the content snippet editor to make changes. If you’re using the same content snippet more than once in the email, any edits will be applied to all of them.
- Available in block toolbar: You can now create snippets directly from inside your broadcasts and incentive emails via the block toolbar.
- Search for your snippet: Have a lot of content snippets? We now have a search feature in the “insert snippet” modal, so you can find the snippet you need much faster.
Layout blocks
Layout blocks are a content block that you can add into your emails to create different formats and designs. In the past, you were only able to create two-column layouts, and could only add images and text. Now, you can create up to three-column layouts, and can add any additional rich media content to the layout blocks.
Undo/Redo
A simple but a powerful action. While all our draft emails autosave for you, it’s not easy to recover after a mistake you made. Now, with the shortcuts Command/Control + Z and Command/Control Y you’re already used to, you can undo and redo actions as you’re writing your email content.
Accent, keyboard, and clipboard support
To continue to give you the best-in-class writing experience, we’ve also made some small but important updates:
- Full keyboard navigation: We’ve added a variety of keyboard shortcuts to speed up your workflow.
- Clipboard support: For creators who create elsewhere before adding their content to the Kit editor, you can now copy and paste everything into your email, including images!
- Better accent support: For creators who write in different languages, we’ve made some updates to make writing in languages with accents much more seamless.
Grammarly
We want to make sure your emails go out without a hitch. Many creators already use Grammarly to check their content before adding it into their email broadcast. Now, with the Grammarly extension on your browser, you can start drafting your email directly in Kit for a mistake-free email!
Simple to build, easy to design
Kit makes creating beautiful emails a breeze. You write the content, and we’ll make it easy for you to dress it up or down.
On days you need to send a personal story, we have the best writing experience for you to do that with no interruptions. On days you need to roll out a big launch for an upcoming summit, our flexible email editor and customizable templates help you build emails that connect and convert.
When email marketing is at the heart of your business, you need a tool that simplifies the process of writing and publishing on-brand emails—that’s what Kit’s all about.
